Just a quick "I'm home and still dry" post...

Made it back from Wales to my place in 5 hours (should have been about 3.5, but not too bad considering the weather.)

Then took me another 3.5 hours to get from my place to the cat-sitters and back again. That should have taken 20 minutes.

She lives in Mastin Moor near Chesterfield and the road into her village was totally impassable due to flooding. A couple of people went through before me but they had 4x4s so I was like, "Ummm, think I'll find another route." When I had managed to circumnavigate the village and come in the other end, I could see the point where I had stopped and turned back, and there were now 2 cars stuck there and a fire engine trying to get them out.

Chesterfield is totally flooded out and the gridlock is just radiating outwards, made worse by the fact that they had to close junction 34 (Meadowhall) of the M1 - not totally sure exactly why but I've heard that something exploded, maybe Forgemasters???

Went past a lot of flooded out roads with cars stuck in them and emergency services trying to get people out. Lots of helicopters flying around too. The Rother has burst its banks at Renishaw and there were people being evacuated from houses near the river. The main road was still passable but looked very threatened.

Luckily I was able to cut up through Mosborough as the Mossbrook had burst its banks at the bottom of Rotherham Road between Halfway and Eckington, there were lots of cars stuck there too.

I'm following it on BBC 24, it's just bizarre seeing the pictures of the city centre with cars floating down through Wicker arches.

Just texted my boss to see if she knows if the Sheffield site is open, as it sounds like it may have been evacuated going by the reports of areas affected. People are apparently trapped in Meadowhall shopping centre where most of the ground floor has at least some water of some depth.

Haven't seen our work site on BBC so far so cross fingers it's okay.
