Started moving some bits and pieces in already and buying things I don't have (such as a telly!) I have a removals man coming tomorrow to transport the heavy stuff, i.e. boxes full of books!, bed, chest of drawers, etc. I will probably be leaving my PC stuff here until Sunday as the estate agents STILL haven't been able to sort out the BT line, GRRR!
We ended up staying there overnight yesterday at Simon's request, bless him. The bed was a bit uncomfortable but that may be because I did too much yesterday and my back was killing me, so I'll have to give it a couple of weeks and see how it is, but may well need a new mattress.
I took some photos this morning - here they are!

Have just finished re-reading Raymond Chandler's Farewell, My Lovely. Hopefully can now stop hearing Peter Starstedt's "Where Do You Go To My Lovely" in my head every time I pick the book up.
(Could have been worse I suppose... Could have been Fiddlers Dram's "Didn't we have a lovely time/the day we went to Bangor"...)
Working this weekend, so Simon is at Oona's house now being looked after by Oona and Sinead, and probably driving them round the twist and chasing the cats into exhaustion. He behaved nicely yesterday by all accounts - Sinead took him with her to this Adventure Scheme thing where she's working over the holidays. It's like an open access adventure playground with arts and crafts type stuff as well as some sports equipment (table tennis, pool, footie, hoops, etc.) He must have had fun because he's asked to go again next week, which will be very handy because I can take him over on Tuesday and leave him there while I get the majority of my packing done without him being underfoot.
Work could be better, frankly - I found out last week that my boss is being shuffled sideways and I'll now be reporting to someone else... who I don't get on with very well. I really liked my old boss! He just let me get on with things in my own way but was very supportive when I needed backup. The new boss, from what I've seen, is a real politics player, and I just can't be having with that. Oh well, have to see how it goes, I suppose.
Managed to get a new product packaged up and uploaded to Renderosity this week, so hopefully that will go through and be pulling the money in whilst I'm unable to earn due to not having internet. This is the only fly in the ointment with my move - I still don't have the phone number for the house, and I can't get broadband ordered until I have that. I can always access the net from work once I get back in but obviously I can't do any product testing from there. So the sooner I can get online, the better.
Also there's a possibility that I may get a better deal ordering cable with TV/internet/phone all in one, but I can't check if that's available until I get the phone number either!

Will be getting the keys on Wednesday on moving in Thursday. Can't wait!
Pat has gone off down to Cardiff as he doesn't want to be around whilst I'm moving, so it's just me and Simon. Unfortunately I'm on Duty Site Manager this weekend, but thankfully Oona's daughter Sinead has offered to look after Simon.
Now off to the dentist, doctor, letting agents and then start packing!!

Not much else to report - Pat and Simon still away in Cardiff and not coming home until next week at the earliest. The house is sooooo quiet and peaceful without them here. I've only watched TV once in the 10-or-so days they've been gone (Casualty on Saturday night, of course.)
Good thing it is quiet at home, as there have been some right shenanigans at work with politics, backstabbing and brown-nosing the order of the day >:-[ Why can't people just come to work, do their jobs and get on with it? Why does everything have to be such a fucking drama?

So excited! Making lots of lists of things I need to do/remember/pack/sort etc...
Pat and Simon are still in Cardiff; spoke to them both last night. Pat says Simon has been behaving pretty well so it sounds like they will be staying for at least another week.

It was a lovely setting, driveway and gardens, gates, alarmed, bay window lounge. Nice big dining kitchen, well-presented gardens out the back which someone has obviously taken care of. Good-sized second bedroom, nice bathroom, very big main bedroom with a huge window looking out on the front... and a nasty patch of damp under the window. In a house with central heating? Not good... "Oh, we'll have it repapered before you move in" says Mr Estate Agent. Excuse me mate but re-papering isn't going to solve a damp problem! then I opened the door of a large built-in cupboard and found a worse patch of damp with black mould spores spreading up the wall.
So at nearly £100 a month more expensive than the Westfield house, it's definitely a no-go.
Also - spoke to a work colleague today who has lived on Westfield all her life. She rightly points out that any area will have its share of incidents (indeed, there was a murder at Hackenthorpe last year) but that she has never had any trouble in all that time. She also says the area I'm looking at has always been a private estate and is known as a nice quiet area.
So with that in mind, I'm going to go for it! I'm leaving early today so I can get to the agents and give them my application!

It's going pretty cheap at £395 pcm furnished, which I think is just because it is in Westfield. However looking at the ACORN database, it's a 40, which is "Young family workers" in the "Moderate Means" bracket, and there did indeed look to be a large proportion of families around, just looking out of the windows I could see a lot of back garden slides and paddling pools, etc. The kitchen and bathroom are quite new and pretty nice. It's got all fitted wardrobes and cupboards in the bedrooms. The second bedroom is a good size and not a fucking cupboard like the one I viewed in Hillsborough on Monday.
Still got 2 more to see this week but I reckon this could be a winner. I put a post on Sheffieldforum asking about the area so we'll see what comes up.
Pat and Simon are down in Cardiff (Pat phoned just now to let me know they'd got there, it was a bad journey by all accounts.) So I have plenty of time this week and next to go and see places and make arrangements without Simon getting upset.

We also spied a crab-apple tree, so we had an impromptu footie training session using apples as balls :-D
And best of all - I found a tree bearing cobnuts! They're not ripe yet, but I'll be back in a month or so!
Simon and Pat are off to Cardiff for a week or so from tomorrow, so I'll have plenty of peace and quiet and the opportunity to seriously look at a lot of possible house/flat choices. I went to see one in Hillsborough last night but it was too small and cramped for me, let alone having Simon at the weekends. I think they'll have a hard job renting it even at £375/month... Spoke to someone tonight who is showing me their house in Frecheville (just up the road) on Friday night, she (and the house) sounded very nice and it is a good area and would be extremely convenient for Simon's school...
