Had about 5 hours of sleep last night. One of the (very few) drawbacks to living alone is that when you hear a loud banging noise in the middle of the night, there's nobody else to wake up and ask, "What's that noise?"

It turned out to be the cover of the gas/electric meter, which wasn't properly locked and was clanging back and forth in the wind against the wall of the house. It managed to keep waking me through the night while not being quite bad enough for me to get dressed and go outside and investigate.

Hence... killer migraine today :-p

First one in ages though.

I got home last night and found that a heating engineer had been round while I was at work, inspected my boiler, and condemned it as unsafe!! So now I have no heating or hot water until a new one is installed "at the beginning of next week" (hopefully this means Monday and not Wednesday lunchtime...)

Most annoyingly, the engineer had been upstairs, had a wee (and left the toilet seat up), made himself a cup of tea, and used the last of my bloody milk! Rude bastard!

I just hope he didn't go in my bedroom, because my vibrator was on the bedside cabinet...

In the last 2 weeks I have:

Put up a coat rack
Bought and assembled two bookcases and a video/DVD storage cabinet
Set up a TV, VCR and DVD in Simon's room (I decided to to save space downstairs by buying a TV/VCR/DVD combi to go with the freeview box)
Bought about 5 houseplants... sadly one of which appears to be dying. Can anyone recommend foliage or flowering houseplants which like shade?
Finished unpacking all my books onto the new bookcases, listed some unwanted ones on Amazon and taken the others in to work, where we've got an ongoing charity booksale thing
Hung all my pictures up... okay not all of them. I haven't got a big enough frame for the Hellblazer poster and I'm not totally sure where to put it where it would work anyway. I'm not sure John Constantine covered with angel's blood really fits my style motif anymore... God, getting old sucks.
Strimmed the back garden (the mower has a worrying number of cuts to the flex where I can almost see the core, so I'm steering clear of that one)
Cut the pampas grass back ruthlessly so I can turn the fucking rotary washing line round
Fixed coat hooks on the back of the bedroom and bathroom doors. I tried to go with the girly, I-can't-be-arsed-to-use-a-screwdriver stick on hooks, but they're just crap, aren't they
Resealed the bath
Put the empty boxes on Freecycle

Hmm... lots more but I need a relatively early night as I've got Simon tomorrow evening.

I got the keys yesterday!

Started moving some bits and pieces in already and buying things I don't have (such as a telly!) I have a removals man coming tomorrow to transport the heavy stuff, i.e. boxes full of books!, bed, chest of drawers, etc. I will probably be leaving my PC stuff here until Sunday as the estate agents STILL haven't been able to sort out the BT line, GRRR!

We ended up staying there overnight yesterday at Simon's request, bless him. The bed was a bit uncomfortable but that may be because I did too much yesterday and my back was killing me, so I'll have to give it a couple of weeks and see how it is, but may well need a new mattress.
